Blast from the Past - Power of Politics

Comment Up
November 16, 2010 City Commission Meeting
Commissioner Maxwell arrived at 6:43pm

b. Palm Beach County League of Cities Liaison

ACTION: Motion made by Vice Mayor Mulvehill and seconded by Commissioner Golden to appoint Commissioner Maxwell as the Palm Beach County League of Cities Liaison.

...............................
That was one year ago. Scott Maxwell had not yet arrived at the meeting. Mulvehill put politics aside and nominated him anyway. The vote passed unanimously, 4/0.

This year the professional courtesy was not extended to Suzanne Mulvehill who has represented our city well for over 3 years. She was out of the country on vacation and unable to attend the first city commission meeting with the newly elected members. Her only booboo in the mind of Scott Maxwell (who completely took over the nominating process) was her loyalty to the city manager. Mulvehill was not considered for any appointment and was intentionally over-looked as a liaison to any organization by the new members on the dais. McVoy did nominate her as Vice Mayor Pro Tem and one liaison position but both went on deaf ears.

We have a new majority that should be looking to end the politics of divisiveness. I thought that was one of their goals. We need five people leading this city, not just three. Right off the bat, they drew the line in the sand...Your side....Our side...Never the twain shall meet. This new commission rendered Mulvehill to figurehead status, something of which Maxwell was all too familiar. It was his payback time. Mulvehill would be punished and Triolo and Amoroso went along.

Even though she did not always practice what she preached, former Mayor Waterman said not too long ago, "I will not support the politics of division. We are one city with one future." This is an honorable aspiration for anyone leading our city.

Mulvehill has no one to blame for this but herself(and her blind loyalty to Stanton). She showed no loyalty or class by being absent for the swearing in of our new Commissioners.Did she learn NOTHING from Tom Ramiccios blunder of being out of the country on what could have been his election as our Mayor?!?Mulvehill's chickens really have finally come home to roost!

I agree, it's not like she has a real job and was going to loose her vacation time. I think it shows lack of loyalty to the people that voted for her (I'm NOT one of them)for her to schedule a vacation at election time. She's an elected person. (once again, NOT by me).

Mulvehill has nothing to do with chickens. That was Jennings. She is entitled to a vacation. I believe that you intentionally missed the point here and want to play your politics just like the new commission. That certainly is your prerogative but it just shows that there will NEVER be a cohesive city--there will always be two ways of looking at matters--which was the other subtle point I was making.

Yes, one side or the other side, both stink from time to time. Mulvehill did appoint Maxwell. It just shows that she is a bigger person.

Anony above, if you don't think this is a real job than you are part of what's wrong here too.

I don't always agree with Scott, but Lynn, I think you might have got this one wrong...

If you recall, Triolo was put on the mop, as waterman and varela before

Triolo was also placed on chamber because of her standing association with the chamber of commerce

McCoy begged to be put back on fmpa

Maxwell was placed on league of cities where he has been in the past and is a member of the board of directors

Amoroso was nominated to treasure coast planning because of the void made by golden(her old position)

He was also placed on dca because of his previous and ongoing leadership position in that organization

And don't forget regarding dca, Maxwell originally nominated Mcvoy but he said he didn't want it...

So I'm not sure where your concerned lies...had Suzanne been there...how do you think things would have Been much different

In reality the difference here is that triolo has a close and working relationship with the chamber, so why wouldn't she be allowed to strengthen it in her new position of mayor
to the dca

Thanks.
First of all, McVoy did not BEG for anything. He SUGGESTED that he be put on the FMPA Liaison spot because of his background. What he didn't say was that he has been that liaison in the past and has served us well. I can be sure that he will be on top of anything that FMPA does regarding Lake Worth.

SO, if you do not understand my concern, then there is not much I can say other than this commission blocked out Mulvehill from participating at all. Is there anything about THAT you don't understand?

Don't try to justify what this commission did. They are all culpable of the non-action and complete insult to Suzanne Mulvehill.

Did anyone notice Commissioner Mulvehill's chair was pushed away as if she did not exist. The distain for her continued the entire meeting. No seated commissioner should be treated that way. Respect yourselves - respect each other. A rather poor showing from the folks who were supposed to improve matters.

Before Tuesday nights meeting Commissioner Mulvehill was the liaison to The Chamber. I became a Chamber board member in January after TR was pushed out of his position withe The Chamber. In all the board meetings and Chamber breakfast, mixers and such, Commissioner Mulvehill never came to any chamber meetings or events that I was at. Shouldn't a commission liaison participate in the groups their assigned to be involved with.

Now we get it Greg. You and your buddies will now malign Suzanne Mulvehill. Great going, Greg.

Helooooo, anybody home out there? Mulvehill chose NOT to be here for a swearing in of a new Commission. In my opinion ,a very nasty snub on her part. And yet, everybody is supossed to kiss her butt while she bikes/hikes/walks around France! Thanks to Greg for informing us that the Commission liason to the Chamber,Mulvehill,CHOSE not to attend any meetings/events of the Chamber!Maybe she was too busy going to all of the countless workshops/one on one meetings with the city manager.
