Trees or convenient parking?

Comment Up
Some West Palm Beach Commissioners want to take out 13 convenient parking spaces on Clematis Street, the heart of their city, for trees. Does that sound familiar?

Well, the same thing happened at the Lake Worth beach. A majority commission voted to take out 167 upper level parking spaces to put in trees and bushes. Our new visionary could have stopped it...they didn't.

At least new WPB City Commissioner Shanon Materio had the sense to ask staff to postpone its decision while they gauged the feeling of business owners. That is a step in the right direction.

TREES.

Absolutely Trees. Trees will bring a lot of revenue to the City. Trees will attract people to the city so that they can drive around and find a parking place, somewhere, if they are lucky. :)

Lake Worth is a walkable, bikeable city. People shouldn't be driving cars. Isn't this the credo of the elected officials you've been supporting for years?

No, it is not.

Downtown has tons of parking. There is a garage every 3 blocks. And even if there wasn't, are we really saying that parking spaces are more important than trees? That's just really sad.

The ONLY thing sad here are politicians who don't ask the people that their decisions affect. They want to take away revenue, not a great idea in these difficult times. People are not coming to downtown Clematis to look at a tree. They are looking for a convenient parking space. Please GET REAL.
