Tonight Lake Worth Selection Committee Meeting

Comment Up

BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION:

On August 14, 2012, presentations from the following eight power supply proposing firms for alternate sources of power were made:

1. Constellation Energy Commodities Group
2. Covanta Energy
3. Florida Power & Light
4. Gainesville Regional Utilities
5. Orlando Utilities Commission
6. Tampa Electric Company
7. UR Solar Power
8. Wärtsilä and Burns & McDonnell

Reducing these eight companies to a short list will be the first most important decision they make for our city. 6pm tonight.

Last night the EUAB met to discuss this process and some wondered why the sale of our Utility was not in the RFP. Lisa Maxwell said, "The seriousness would be dictated by a public vote." She further stated that it is imperative to put out the sale as an option "otherwise we are doing a disservice to the citizens."

Our energy attorney passed out a report that said that if Lake Worth wanted to sell our Utility then we  would have to receive compensation well in excess of $200 million.

We can't make an intelligent move concerning our utility until we get an internal audit done by an outside, independant professional.

What makes this citizen task force in any way qualified to make any suggestions to our Commissioners about our utilities? Did any of them have a background in the industry?Other than a major hard-on for certain Commissioners, anything?

The members on the Electric Board voted not to make any recommendations on the power provider bids because all the information was not available to them. Commissioner McVoy INSISTED the board provide the Selection Committee with recommendations.

I think if you did just a tiny bit of research you would find the committee did not want to make any recommendation. Dr.Dirt led the charge to demanding they make a recommdation.

I do plenty of research and there is no reason why this Board could not come up with telling the Selection Committee what companies seemed the best and why they thought so regardless of cost. Don't bother slapping me down for the lack of research. Go fly. And don't bother knocking people such as McVoy. He had every right to ask this Board for their thoughts. Obviously, the leadership had none, other than to sell the Utility.
