Car is in violation of city and county laws

Comment Up--Read comment on what happened at Parrot Cove NA meeting

Still on our city street...two flat tires...no tag. According to a resident who talked to both, PBSO says it is a code issue...Code says it is a sheriff thing to solve. Someone needs to solve it. Let's get rid of code violators.

Please refer to blog of one month ago on this vehicle. Read the city and county laws that are provided.

PBSO and our nonexistent code dept.-it's a draw as to who is the biggest bunch of lazy S.O.B.'s. Look at the graffiti all over the place. Don't the owners of the bldgs. have to have it down in 24 hrs.? What about P.B.S.O graffiti team? We heard A LOT about them when they wanted to take over our city ,along with the now non-happening neighborhood patrols.

ill agree with you on the car...but the motorcycle on the sidewalk for a few minutes is no big deal. the police paid no attention to it because its just part of the way things happen in a small town. its nothing to get your feathers ruffled about. but it was a pretty picture you took

How do you know it was there for a few minutes? Actually, it is against the law to park it on our city sidewalk. This is the problem..give a code violator an inch and they will always take the mile--always.

It took at least 20+ communications to the City and PBSO to get the crashed car on North O (just off Lucerne) towed. It also took at least 6 weeks. When you call PBSO they repeatedly told me they don't enforce parking/street ordinances. So who does???? The bottom line is just keep calling, emailing, complaining, if you email the street dept or call PBSO every day for six weeks, eventually the problem will be solved.

But, of course, why does it take 6 weeks, why are we paying PBSO half our budget and they won't enforce our laws?

Lynn - I didn't find an appropriate spot to post this, but I thought you might find it interesting.

I don't know if you know but there is a "sober" house coming to the Parrot Cove neighborhood. We had a meeting about it on Monday, the owner was supposed to show but, surprise, she didn't.

However, I thought it was interesting that someone, a gal attorney, raised the issue of enforcing LW's short term rental ordinance (a/k/a vacation rental ordinance) to try and keep these "sober" houses out of our neighborhoods. The idea being that residents of these facilities are only there for a month or so, so it would come under short term rental. Comm. Maxwell did a lot of political double speak but my impression was there will be no enforcement of the vacation rental ordinance against the sober house or any other vacation rental.

Didn't know about that one but I was told by someone high up in LW government that there are three properties that certain groups are looking at to house the Homeless in Lake Worth.

And I think you are 100% correct--Maxwell and the rest will do nothing about short term rentals because THEY ARE SCARED TO DEATH OF A LAW SUIT.

you cant have it both ways...you've complained in the past that there are too many law suits against LW and yet you say that SM and the rest are scared to death of a law suit.
which is it?

There are way too many law suits against the city. However, when we have laws on the books and the city allows some creep to get its way causing us grief, than it is because of scared lawyers and city officials. It is easier to cave. We can't help that people sue as they believe that some egregious action was taken against them or they just plain want to take advantage of the "settle at all costs" mentality and grab some of our cash. But we need to stand up when we are right. The heights issues is one that they need to drop. That is driven by BAD POLITICS.

SO, IT'S NOT "BOTH WAYS" ANONYMOUS. It's following through and doing the right thing.

With regard to the Parrot Cove meeting; the poster is only half correct in his/her statement. Maxwell said nothing of the sort with regards to the short term rental law (ordinance) not being enforced. They have nothing to do with one another.

Maxwell was not there to speak and with the intended speaker cancelling shortly prior to the meeting, he filled in to talk to the membership that were there to hear about this important topic. He stated he would share what he has learned about them and he likened the difficulty of locating and identifying these 'houses' to that of locating unregistered short term rentals, and the challenge they pose to the City.

I was paying pretty close attention and I recall no time when anyone in that room said there was no interest in enforcing any laws. In fact, I believe his sentiment was one of frustration with what is in place and stated they are looking at options to try to properly deal with these things.

What was stated is that it is identified as a significant issue facing many cities such as ours and there is no regulation in place to protect the citizens from unscrupulous operators, or the fallout of failed treatments.

I don't think any responsible person would want or otherwise be ok with having housing units in their residential neighborhoods for those going through drug rehabilitation, so it seems there is a pretty united feeling here.

The only option available to those concerned with their presence is to keep an eye on the activity surrounding them and report to PBSO all suspicious and illegal activity. If they have a certain number of calls in a set time frame then it can move down the path of the nuisance abatement. But this requires everyday people to pitch in and help. Hopefully those of us concerned take the right steps to do our part. Maybe if a less than tolerating environment were to be created LW may not look so inviting to them. That is up to us to do.

It is big business, and like water, it will follow the path of least resistance.
