Decal parking at Lake Worth beach

Comment Up

This is the first parking ticket I have seen at the beach although there have been many. Yesterday the beach was crowded and the entire decal lot was filled. There were a few cars with no decal sticker that were not ticketed at the time I took this photo.

Good, I am sure they will fight it. The parking attendants told us we have until May 15 to have the new decal, that seems fair. Yesterday was the 17th, over two weeks, so let them pay the ticket.

I just wish they would put a time limit on the decal parking area to 2-4 hours per visit. It is abused. A lot of workers at Mulligan's etc. who work up there, park in those lots all day long for 8+ hours, using spaces that people who come to enjoy the beach can't. There is a blue sedan, like nissan versa or toy corrolla that is there all day long, this is abusive.

Probably the better system is to increase the decal parking annual fee. Its a deal if you live in LW as I'm sure this employee does. Since they are not doing anything wrong, I'm not surprised that someone figured out this loophole.

I would be interested in knowing how many employees actually live in the City of LW--not too many I would guess. The fee used to be $10--now it's $40. I think this is enough. The snowbirds' status needs to be changed once again so that they are not using the decal parking. They were not part of the scenario when this space was negotiated--only residents who live here over 6 months and one day. Szerdi lead the way to change this.

I have no problem with snow birds using the decal spot, although I think snow birds should pay double the resident fee. $40 for unlimited parking is super cheap. I think raise the resident fee to $50 and the snow bird fee to $100. The result would be more money for City and fewer snow birds would buy the decal (a win for residents).

The fact that it was $10 and that you could park in any spot, was and is ludicrous.

The decal should be a good buy for those that use the beach a lot but not a give away. 2/3 of the city properties don't pay city taxes so the city needs to make that up in fees and I think raising parking fees at the beach is a good place to start.

Or maybe a system where if you pay city taxes then the fee is $40 and if you don't pay city taxes the fee is $100. If you used that system, the fee would be lower for many snow birds and higher for many residents, but then the residents would be helping to pay for the beach property.

It's sad when one person takes delight in another person getting a parking ticket. Or when a private citizen feels it's his or her duty to enforce parking rules. What has our sweet little city come to? :'(

what about playing by the rules--ever think of that one?

I think we should be able to park free and anywhere we want. What about that anony at 4:07? I don't have a problem with paying for the decal but it is our beach, isn't it? Don't I pay taxes to support this? Let's charge all those kids for using ballparks and the gym. Is that stupid, or what? If Scott goes to the beach, charge him double.

I can't believe these cheap idiots continue to park there when they don't have a current decal.

we owned a house on the Jersey shore that had a 50 car parking lot attached to it...we charged $2 per day to park...(that was 10 years ago) today the new owners charge $20 per day to park for the beach and boardwalk and the lot is always full. $40 per year for a decal for the LW beach is dirt cheap.
Boca (my hometown) charges $16/18 a day for our ocean parks and $55 per yr for residents

Sorry- I won't buy a parking decal for a messed up overcrowded parking lot that thank God ex comish Szerdi screwed up even more by letting in the cheap=o snowbird population. I pay a membership to John Mcarthur beach up on Singer Island. Only about 15 min. away and I get a free Kayak rental every time I go ! Beautiful place-nature center, clean reastrooms, just a classy place. At least I don't have to worry about getting stepped or peed on by some illegal's twelve kids.

If you raise the decal fees and if you raise regular parking fees the City will generate more revenue (since they are always complaining about how the beach doesn't produce enough) and you will dissuade some from coming to the beach, pricing them out, which helps with the crowds.

The casino redo has been a huge success which is why HH wants it and which is why its so busy.
