Code Complaints Closed on Wright Drive

Comment Up

This was an open code case. This owner of the house on Wright Drive (the property has been coded on many occasions through the years) installed a modular facility right on the front lawn. Vehicles park on the lawn throughout the day. It seems that this residence is being used as a business and they are using the modular unit  for storage? This particular complaint was the storage unit on the front lawn. Now the owner has built a fence to hide the modular unit. Now the case is closed???????????

This house blights the community.

I guess it's much more fun going after Commissioner Maier

Now and then I drive by this dump on the way to I-95. Now a fence right across the middle of the yard to hide the mobile storage shed? The shed that shouldn't be there anyway? This used to be a great little street.

Subject: 535 Wright Drive Code Issue

Dear Michael and William,

I have seen that the code compliance case for 535 Wright Drive has been closed due to the definition that the "side yard" on the 6th Avenue South side is shorter which "technically" that makes it the front yard. (Please see the attached documentation copied from the Lake Worth Code Compliance site for Lake Worth.

I tried to search the Municode for Lake Worth to see how Egress and Ingress for a lot would be defined for a property on a corner however the City Site did not give any search results to access our Municode for an average citizen like myself to investigate.

Now that we have at least established as to "why" building a shed in ones "front" yard is technically their side yard even though the property has a Wright Drive address and the egress and ingress for the main door of the dwelling is facing Wright Drive ok....Maybe its a stretch for the people of Residences of Lake Osborne to think that the front door faces the road that it is on with the address being the same.

I have included my entire neighborhood in the Blind Copy Section of this email and as per the City's Sustainability Departments decision that it is ok for the shed to be planted where it is (Please see again the attached documentation)

I'm alerting every neighbor that has a home facing a direction with the address to the street it faces that if the side yard on the adjoining cross street is "Technically" the front yard based on distance from the road that they should run down to building and get their permit to place a shed in their front yards.

What is built is built and we can not change that but if the definition of a "Front Yard" is described how Mr. Waters typed it into the code system then I guess anyone through out the city can place a shed in their "front yard" if they so desired.

Commissioner Maxwell this is District One and I hope that you will look into this ASAP and if the language is in our code as William has indicated this needs to go before the Commission ASAP, be corrected and that in the future if this were to happen that a Variance should be applied for in a one on one bases.

We in ROLO are so looking forward to a response to this situation and again....our residents at 535 Wright Drive should NOT be annoyed with a lot of chatter as they were already granted and hopefully with shield is on with acceptable plantings to screen this from the main view of everyone driving through our neighborhood on 6th Avenue South.

Sincerely,
Robert E. Waples II
President of Residences of Lake Osborne.

How does the fence fix this? Fence is too high? Also if they are running a biz that wouldNt be permitted either.

Lynn Anderson said...

@ 6:22. This is far from "fixed." This is a modular unit that has been dumped into the front yard. It is not stationary. It is not "built." This statement is not accurate and the code compliance officers know it.
As far as them working out of this residential property and using it as a business and this shed for storage, it is my guess. It is not a proven fact. They are parking on the front lawn on Wright Drive, against code.
Why does everything get so complicated in LW?

Mail is delivered to their mailbox at the front door of this house that is on Wright Drive. The driveway is off of Wright Drive. This is the FRONT of this house and everyone knows it unless they are mentally challenged. What are you thinking Gerry and Al?

Sounds like the owner took a lesson from our elected official and pulled a Ryan Maier on the code department. Lock the door, hide the violation inside, and case closed. I'm going to do the same thing. If that's the example of our city "leaders" then why not.

Lynn Anderson said...

@3:39--the owner of 535 Wright Drive's code violation was on the exterior--you can see it; you can prove it; there is no hiding anything...there is actual EVIDENCE, not made up political crap. Now, why code allowed this to happen is another story.

I agree with you completely 3:39. If Mr. Maeir can take the sissy way out and hide behind a door, shattering his transparency persona, why cant a average citizen hide behind a technicality as well or do we hold commissioners above reproach? In regards to Mr. Maier's actions, why not just let "your" Code Department gather evidence a instead of hiding it? If someone complained on me id say, "come on in code, see that I am doing nothing wrong and have a good day." Yet our commissioner who was elected to represent us pleads the 5th? Even so Mr. Maier's case is closed so its time to let it go and move on. If code did close the case on Wright Drive it must have been for good reasons.. or do we pick and chose which cases to revisit for code discrepancies Lynn? I read your blog often and it does have interesting topics and discussions but so many people want to fault our Code Department (even you Lynn) for everything they feel isn't being done to their standards yet we look past all the good do and when it comes down to it we need them. I see less and less open abandoned houses in my area, just about all of Lake & Lucerne Avenue West of the tracks and even where I live on South E Street has changed dramatically in its improved appearance thanks to my area's Code Officer. If anyone feels they can do a better job why don't you apply since there is a open position on the city website instead of complaining all the time. Its time to move forward with a positive trend instead of all this negativity.

3:39 and 10:06--joined at the hip?
You still want to harp on Ryan Maier because you didn't get your way but you then say it's time to move on. Apparently it is NOT time for you. These are totally different cases as you well know. No one picks and chooses cases other than you.

Great that the streets are improving, anonymous at 10:06. Let's have code give another one of its presentations to let us know how great the city looks and then we'll be able to look at each other incredulously. The case on Wright Drive is a travesty and why code did what it did is insane. Perhaps if someone next to you lives on a corner lot they will be allowed to do the same? You think that's acceptable in a residential neighborhood.

A code officer has a big job here and never ending. I give them a lot of credit for what they do in trying to make our city better. However, the Wright Drive property was a big slip up. I don't need to apply for a job anywhere in this city. All I have to do is look to see the fuc k ups. I have eyes and a voice and still have the freedom of speech whether or not you like that.

You don't like "negativity? Then do the job right.

Lynn,

Your negativity and persistent stubborn attitude to attack everyone and anyone who has a different opinion than you will be your downfall. You need a shot of reality to realize your opinion isn't the only one that matters. Why run a blog for open discussion then as soon as someone posts a comment you don't agree with you verbally assault them? I agree with the others whom posted regarding your "Favorite Commissioner" but its more than that your a very bios individual and unfortunately did close the case on Wright Drive so let it go! Your so quick to defend a person who hid behind a door but ready to pounce on another. Take your own advice... its a Closed Case for whatever reasons, so leave it be.... by the way were all ready for a verbal attack instead of some positive thoughts from you after my comment.

Lynn Anderson said...

We don't plan on letting this case go.
I respond to people who come over here with personal attacks or go against policy. What should I do for you to make you happy? Be a doormat to your bullying? As an example, do you honestly believe that when innocent people are convicted of a crime, thrown in jail, whatever, we should "just let it go?" Seriously?

Mr. Maier's case was closed because of LACK OF EVIDENCE. Do you know what that means?

keep knocking code Ms. Anderson. This town would be in the gutter without them. You may not always get your way but I also see a big difference in this city for the better thanks to our code department

Lynn Anderson said...

I don't "knock" code. However, they made a mistake in this regard on 535 Wright Dr. Stop over there and take a look.
Right is right anonymous at 2:19--it has nothing to do with getting my way.
