Lake Worth Pool and the Survey

Comment Up

Sometime during the Summer, the city of Lake Worth had a Survey on-line regarding our Olympic Pool.  I did not take it as I felt the questions were slanted towards a certain result--that of closing it as well as the City collecting names in support of their desires. At the time, Hudson Holdings was putting on a full-court press to get their hands on it and the feeling was that the city was being compatible towards their goal.

Now the results are in according to article at the Palm Beach Post.

One of the glaring errors in this article is the statement "Built in the 1920s, one of the biggest complaints from residents is that the pool is old and outdated, a gripe Ruiz does not dispute." Well, Juan, the original pool, which was saltwater, was built in the 1920's. This pool, the exact same pool and engineering that Lake Lytal has, was built around 1971 and it is a fresh water pool and it is a special amenity in Lake Worth.

If anyone has a gripe about our pool, it is not the implication by the Post or Leisure Services Director that it is not doing well because it is 1) old and 2) that it's on the ocean and the pool competes for swimmers. Both those reasons are ridiculous, and false opinion.

The pool bathrooms and locker rooms were not in the upgrade and definitely need to be redone. Other than that, people want our pool, want it opened longer and at night and do not want developers messing around with it or anyone else for that matter.

If there is anything wrong with our pool, it is management that does not market it.

It makes no sense that this administration doesn't promote its assets
to the tourist and visitors. Would you send a post card with the picture of millions of dollars spent on Boutwell Road or a Post card of the City Pool? The Pool is an asset to be advertised and used. What is the total cost of operation of the pool in comparison to the return on a road in an industrial park? Many pools are located on the beach, the Swimming Hall of Fame is on the beach in Ft. Lauderdale. It's not what you have but how you use it.

Agree in most part. Although I did respond to the survey and simply modified it by putting the bulk of my answers in the note section. Of course, the survey wasn't advertised so many did not know about it.

Our pool is in wonderful condition, do folks in this City have such a short memory that they don't remember that we paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to renovate the pool within the last 7 years (perhaps its even more recent than that). The pool is lovely, yes the locker rooms are horrible and the facade needs a redo, but the actual pool is in great condition and I only wish it were open during the evening (at least once or twice a week) so I could actually use it.

The pool has been set up to fail, the hours are so limited that just retirees can use it during the week, on the weekend it is very well used.

The pool is spectacular!! What is up with this Palm Beach Post reporter?? I am guessing he has never been to our pool. It is beautiful and there is nothing wrong with it at all. The locker rooms are rustic. But who cares? Wear your suit and you do not need to use them.

The pool is falling apart, the lifeguards locker room is horrendous and the bathrooms are roach infested. I must say though Sally Welsh's classes up there are great!!! She is true asset to the pool and a great friend!

The pool is NOT falling a part. If it is, in your opinion, then who should the citizens blame? Why can't the city EVER take care of anything?
We already know about the locker rooms and bathrooms.

Who got the bulk of the hundreds of thousands of dollars to "renovate" Our pool? Jeff Clemens was Mayor . Greater Bay was in charge,Cory O'Gorman, Laura Hanna, Joe Kroll- ring any bells ? People were up there daily observing the con job money grab ,screaming that we were not getting what was promised. Those people were ignored. Somebody(actually a LOT of somebody's) should have been arrested.

Does the lights falling out of the siding inside the pool count? Or does that not fall into the realm of falling apart?

8:45...tell it to whomever is in charge of maintenance and have them get the damn lights fixed. Voila! So sick of this city allowing our city to go to ruin, Don't you think that's a little tiring, anonymous?

Im confused on where you stand Lynn and assume where i stand? I love our pool area and want to keep it for the public. Im just saying the building itself is in horrible condition and the pool just needs maintenance on the broken tiles & lights falling out. No need to jump the gun Lynn. The guards we have are also very pleasant.

@9:38--I agree with you that maintenance needs to be done.

I think the pool was built even later than 1971. The city doesn't even maintain water fountains at the parks, let alone the pool. The pool and entire beach complex should be in PRISTINE condition, just like Disney with landscaping included. The property is in a harsh environment and needs to be constantly overseen.

The freshwater pool was built in 1971.
