One of the neighborhood association presidents invited the mayor to meet with her at the light. She never got a response back until later yesterday and said that she could not make it. We are paying Siemens over $23 million dollars on this bad deal until year 2031 and the mayor signed the contract.

I agree, they look great! This will deter criminal activity. Put up a curtain and blinds.

Gosh, you guys have no clue about Dark Sky.
We really need a presentation by Dark Skies to educate both the public and now, it seems Siemans. I did not believe it myself that the brightest light can actually be a hindrance to visibility--until I saw a presentation. If there is a very bright light in front of you, it can blind every thing behind it. A lower brightness that is focused down will actually show up much more and is much safer. Look at all the shadows in the picture.
The lights ARE dark sky compliant. The old ones were not. These save energy, are brighter and illuminate a larger area. I like them. Plus they pay for themselves in saved energy. Lake Worth is ahead of the curve on this one.

No, but I attended a NA presentation that spoke about them. It was stated they ARE dark sky compliant. The light goes out further than the old ones but does not reflect up from the bulb area and all light is aimed downward. The streets are brighter but less light is directed upwards.

I don't care for the hue of the light either but do like that it illuminates the area more and is much more energy efficient. It will also last longer and not burn out all at once.
The new lights are 'dark sky' compliant. They are energyynefficient and will pay for themselves in electricity use. LW is going green and as a huge benefit, our streets will be safer.
Want a darker sky? Move further west - like Wellington or better yet Belle Glade.

Pay attention "city good,everything else bad" pep squad-- This light is not set right ! We should be proud that Lake Worth is going to have Dark sky compliant lights. This light is dark sky complaint,BUT NOT THE WAY IT IS SET ! It will be a good safe light WHEN IT IS FIXED. The ignorant person who said "put up curtains" really does need to attend a presentation about this. Like Lynn, I also thought that brighter meant better. Too bright actually makes the criminals jobs so much easier. It creates blind spots were criminal activity can occur.Right now this light shoots out into adjacent yards and windows with a harsh glaring light on one side while right behind the light on the other side a pool of blackness has been created.Katie Mcgiveron
what is interesting is 0 utilities are installing these for a reason and yet LWU's and our commission thinks it is a great idea. just amazing, wonder what FPL will do once this commission sells to them. They do not stock these so i guess just leave them burned out
Selling to FPL? That ship has long sailed. Now it is up to us to usher in a new Lake Worth Utilities. Stay tuned.

@10:47 Not true. We cannot sell to anyone including FPL due to bond obligations just like Vero Beach. Do your research and you will find this to be valid. Unless you are talking MANY years down the road.
We can NOT sell our Utility without a vote of the people!
Even a vote by the people can not sell the utility - without paying off the bond... which we can not do financially. So, we are not going to sell the electric utility. PERIOD!!! Regardless of what any ill informed, misguided electorate would try to forward as a referendum. Simply ain't gonna happen.
I'm pro more and better street lights. And I live near by. I went to check out this light a couple of nights ago and its kind of strange. I drove down Lakeside and came from the east on 5th Ave. So I was driving from Lake side towards Federal.
My observations, the light is bright! The light is located on the SW corner of this intersection. It really illuminates the intersection and it seems like its tilted towards the east. I found that it actually somewhat blinded me as I was driving towards it, which is why I think it might be tilted towards the east. That is probably not a good idea as its so bright it could interfere with people's night vision.
The light does a good job of lighting up the intersection, but I found it actually seems worse in lighting up the general area as the light is focused, so as soon as you move outside the area of the light it is very dark. Whereas the light on the corner of North O and 5th Ave. (an older light) does a better job of lighting the areas of North O to the north and south of the light.
I guess my bottom line is there are pros and cons.
