National Defense Authorization Act

House Rules Committee to decide the fate of DACA amendment -- Call Speaker Ryan and push for a vote!

The House Rules Committee will hold a hearing on Tuesday (tomorrow), July 11, to establish the rules for House consideration of H.R. 2810, the National Defense Authorization Act.

During tomorrow's hearing, the Committee will decide if the House will vote on an amendment offered by Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) that would block DACA recipients from the Department of Defense's MAVNI program. The MAVNI program allows foreign nationals who have critical skills to enlist in the military.

Several years ago, the Obama Administration established a process whereby DACA amnesty recipients, who would otherwise be ineligible for the MAVNI program, could enlist in the military. Rep. Gosar's amendment would end that process.

The Rules Committee has discretion over what amendments will come up for a vote, but it does take its cues from House Leadership, including Speaker Paul Ryan.

Please call Speaker Ryan and urge him to allow a House vote on the Gosar amendment to the NDAA that would block DACA amnesty recipients from the MAVNI program.

Thanks!
