Lake Worth Arts wins Cultural Affairs Grant for Dia de Los Muertos – Day of the Dead Celebration

LAKE WORTH, FL— Presented by LULA Lake Worth Arts and R Dot Photography, Día de los Muertos or Day of the Dead, is a festive time to honor deceased relatives, satirize the living, and entice the spirits to visit with flower-decked altars and offerings of food. One of South and Central America’s most distinctive holidays, Day of the Dead, is considered a day of cheerful celebration rather than one of mourning.

Seeing that last year’s event was a success, CRA/LULA Staff applied for the State of Florida’s Cultural Affairs Division Specific Project Grant. The Specific Cultural Project grant is designed to fund a cultural project, program, exhibition, or series. The grant activities must support the mission of the organization and further the state's cultural objectives. CRA/LULA Staff were recently notified by the State that the grant request had been awarded in the amount of $14,550 to assist in marketing, promotion and entertainment for the festival.

This November, Lake Worth Arts will present a FREE day of fun for the whole family. Please join us on Saturday, November 4th at 4 pm at the HATCH building located at 1121 Lucerne Avenue. The Day of the Dead celebration will feature traditional foods, folkloric dances, traditional ofrendas, a procession, cultural arts and crafts and children’s activities. Admission and parking to the festival and exhibition are free. For information on the event or on vending opportunities please call 561-493-2550 or log onto www.lakeworthcra.org.

Wonderful use of tax dollar grants...a Mexican festival that will be attended by a lot of illegals who don't speak English. Why are we celebrating a Mexican holiday? You shouldn't have removed the shuffleboard courts. Thanks for ignoring recreation enjoyed by many American senior citizens.

I wouldn't be caught dead at this event. No pun intended. And BTW-no foreign flags should be flying in front of city hall. For example, the Haitian flag and even the Gay Pride flag. Only the state of Fla flag and the United States Flag should be flown.

So you don't post my comment..... which is fine, sarcasm aside, many of these people ARE Americans. Many of them speak English. This is their home too and "now".

Being a long time resident here too, it is concerning to see the taking over of our English heritage by speakers of foreign languages.

Just the way the world is changing. Not a bad or good thing. Just change.
