Winners and Losers

Click to read--

The results are what they are. And in a statement attributed to Abraham Lincoln, "In a democracy people get the leaders they deserve." It's hard to beat an incumbent unless he has committed misfeasance.

Sarah Malega lost by 243 votes.

In West Palm Beach, Shanon Materio lost by 183 votes.

And think about it--these two candidates got the Palm Beach Post endorsement. I remember years go when Barbara Aubel got the Post endorsement and lost to Dave Vespo.

Scott Maxwell took that non-Post endorsement to heart and used every thing in his playbook to come out on top. He blitzed everyone to death over the last weekend (I was wondering why he was saving his money) up through election day, keeping his message and face before the electorate reminding them that it was he who set a successful path for Lake Worth. This is how he won.

One of his mailers came in yesterday's mail and he even did another robo call around Noon. It wasn't the fact that he raised more money or that the firefighters helped him out at the polls that he won. He got energized at the end of the campaign. It was his dogged determination and full court press to turn it around and stay in office.

The real losers are all the voters who stayed home--about 80% in Lake Worth who have no knowledge or interest as to what's going on. They believe the hype or just don't give a damn. Our city's direction is decided by less than 3,000 voters.

Sarah, congratulations on a good try. Drew, you never should have run at all.

Right. He was terrible at the forums and lost his butt. Even the Palm Beach Post could see through his bull. He has no energy for anything other than the Park of Commerce where he wants to spend millions or getting rid of the pool where he wants to spend millions. What next, Scott? The golf course and Hudson Holdings taking over our pool and golf course?

Oh no, 3 years more of Scott?

Congratulations! Time to get the FUC$ out of this dump.

I am all for term limits and I don't care who is in office--for all the obvious reasons.

Congratulations to Sarah on a good campaign. She would have made a good commissioner. I didn't care for the negativity although it was 90% more subdued than most of our contentious municipal elections.

Now I hope they do move the pool to a more convenient location. It is not historic, not profitable (not that it needs to be) and very underutilized mainly because of its location. Put it in the center of town so people can walk or bike to it.

Utilize the space at our most valuable property to support more beach goers with beach activities, shops restaurants and YES parking. Resident parking needs to be moved back up to the top lot. If Bornstein could swap spaces from one end of the beach to the other, he should be able to do the same with spaces from the bottom lot to the top.

Now, let's also start working on the next 2 megawatts of solar, lowering our electric rates to BELOW FPL in commercial as well as residential, and finish up the road construction as soon as possible.

to those who say anything against people who run for office.BITE ME!!!!! next time you try..THANK YOU FOR TRYING BOTH SARAH AND DREW!!!!!!!

Our pool needs to stay where it is. Our pool most certainly is historic! The NAPC has failed terribly .The presidents represent the neighborhoods,so why didn't the neighborhoods vote? Less than 3,000 out of the eligible 15,000 voters bothered to vote???? Shame on this stupid city!

People vote and are clueless. That's the truth.
@11:28--sounds like the "company" line to me.
People like our pool right where it is! Put it to a damn vote.
You win and then you begin to bully.

Our pool is in the best location it could possibly be in. Don't ruin an amenity because you want more parking and more commercial activity. It's a beach park. If you can find the money or float another bond, build a parking garage on the lower level, repair our pool that included the locker rooms for the $505k, market it and bring in teams, etc. And if this administration continues along the vein they have been on, people will be outraged. There is a handful of people who insist that we spend millions (that we don't have) building a pool somewhere else. Let's not prove how stupid some of these commissioners are. We're going to have 3 more years of a commission driving a stake through the hearts of its residents?

IT DONT MAKE SENSE FOR THESE NO BRAINERS TO WANT TO MOVE THE POOL DOWNTOWN WHEN LAST MONTH THEY WERE BITCHING WE NEED MORE PARKING DOWNTOWN.DONT THINK WE CAN HAVE BOTH.ALSO LEAVE THE GOLF COURSE ALONE

Pool at the ballfields at Whitmore gonna be awesome & parking garage and splash pool for the children is going to be awesome! 3 more years!

Where's Whitmore? Is this the little genius who is clueless?

Worthmore rd babydoll,( glare on my phone sitting outside). Can you imagine, pool, community clubhouse, it’s going to be great!

Lynn Anderson said...

In your dreams. Why not in the Osborne Area...don't they get everything? Are you discriminating or something? You want College Park for a community pool. Funny.

The whole concept fir the Aquatic Centre of Lake Worth at Whirthmore Estates is to utilize the ballfields which are wasting away bringing blight and bum camps. We will get the Lollie the Trolly running again to bring children and families from every corner of Lake Worth, it’s going to rock!

Full steam ahead!!!!

Put the new modern pool in the heart of Lake Worth between A street and Dixie. It would spur more development in the West of Dixie corridor and be convenient for people, especially kids in the Tropical Ridge and Poinciana neighborhoods to utilize.

People cannot ride their bikes over the bridge. It is dangerous for kids to do that. It is a long walk over the bridge. It costs $2 per hour plus pool fees to drive to the pool.

The pool in its present location loses around 1/3 of a million dollars (that's funds that we the tax payers have to make up) over what it takes in annually. Market the pool all you want and we probably wouldn't come close to breaking even. Even a pool located in a more convenient central location probably wouldn't break even but because it would be used more, it would cost us tax payers less.

Our elected officials should be getting the best use of public property for the tax payers. Not throwing more ($500,000 ) down the drain.

Hopefully intelligence will prevail.

Lynn Anderson said...

Stop the lobbying on this blog.
Intelligence will not be allowed to prevail because this commission will do what in hell it pleases with all the inane reasons...Oh, the pool isn't making any money.
Put it to a vote of the people and give the people the same amount of money for politicking.

If the pool moves anywhere it going to be put in the ROLO neighborhood west of I-95. Talks between the state, the owners and the city to buy the old Smith property and turn it into an aquatic center have just been completed. After a 3 year study, the 4.2 acres is the only empty space big enough in the city to handle this. The site will include two pools,an Olympic style pool and a smaller, shallower child/family style pool.A snack center has also been planned, which will be going out to bid soon. (maybe Amoroso can move his juice bar there).Ground breaking should be happening in about 2 months.

I loved riding bikes over the bridge to the pool with my kid. You don't have to bother with finding a parking space, and the kid's legs get really strong.

Lynn Anderson said...

It's not about you anonymous @7:37. It's our pool and we want it right where it is. Put it to a vote. Spend 500k or $2-6 million on a new one. Which is it?

But Lynn....our developer friend really, really wants that beach-front property, and we should all just be nice and give it to him. C'mon already.
